And Now For Something Completely Different

Wow. I hadn't realised how draining the last two posts would be to me. But along with that has come a sense of unburdening. Not that I haven't spoken of my eating issues before, but that was the first time I had typed it out and read it from a distance.

These past few days, my mind keeps going back to books I discovered in the 80's, when there was a profusion of 'thought' books. Leo Buscaglia, Hugh Prather, Robert Fulghum (and my perrenial favourite from before then, Kahlil Gibran), to name but a few. I could fill reams quoting their wisdom, but this one has always stuck out for me:

"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge-
That myth is more potent than history.
I believe that dreams are more powerful than facts-
That hope always triumphs over experience-
That laughter is the only cure for grief.
And I believe that love is stronger than death."

~ Robert Fulghum ~

and this has come, in recent years, to mean a lot to me:

“One of life's best coping mechanisms is to know the difference between an inconvenience and a problem. If you break your neck, if you have nothing to eat, if your house is on fire, then you've got a problem. Everything else is an inconvenience. Life is inconvenient. Life is lumpy. A lump in the oatmeal, a lump in the throat and a lump in the breast are not the same kind of lump. One needs to learn the difference.”

~ Robert Fulghum ~

"Life is lumpy." - aint THAT the truth!

But oh such a wonderful ride it is, even with the lumpiest of lumps.

So true, life is lumpy. I think it would be too easy if it were smooth.

I absolutely agree miranda....the lumps are what make it what it is...and the struggles help us appreciate all the good things :)

I really like that first Robert Fulghum quote. That quote would keep me feeling and thinking young.

Hi Steve, good to see you. While a lot of his stuff may be considered light and a bit pop-philosophy, he has given us some gems :)

I sooo envy you that you can remember quotes!

Think I like my lumpy inconvenient life....I am also blessed in that my work helps keep my life in perspective.....my clients have problems...which make my little inconveniences the consisty of lumpy oatmeal....a little brownsugar, some warm melty butter, and it still goes down tasty :)

SD I like the lumpy too - I love a challenge!

With quotes, over the years when I find something that resonates I keep a copy of it whether a clipping or a file on my computer or just a mental note that I can go and reference later.
