It's not that bad, really. They probably used the same stuff they used in the Apple store in Manhattan to make their balconies and staircases - polyvinylbutyl laminate glass, a.k.a. PVB. The stuff's equivalent in strength to concrete, which is why you can walk on it, and if you launch a 2x4 at it like a projectile, the glass will break in a whole sheet, similar to car glass, and won't actually rupture until about a 40-mph impact.
It's strong stuff. Costs about double what regular laminate glass does, but far more versatile in its possibilities, construction-wise.
OH, yeah, a funny note: the Apple store had to add a layer of frosting to the glass. Seems too many customers were standing under the glass bridge waiting for women in skirts to walk over it...
I will try this one more time, my tiredness was showing on that first comment. It would be a challenge that I would have to try...I am terribly phobic of high places.....but I also feel it takes away from the natural beauty of the canyon.
As for walking on it, no matter how strong it is, even knowing that, something happens to one's balance. I have walked on a glass floor in Macau, at the tower, and it's hard to describe the feeling, no matter how safe you know you are!!
I wonder if this is going to lead to further commercialization of the area. Strip mall? Starbucks? Restaurants? Hotels? Bungee jumping off the platform?

You'll never find me walking over that, I don't care how many 747's it will hold up!
WOW!
I couldn't walk on it, no way, no how.

I agree with sunny - it takes away part of the natural beauty somehow.
It does detract from the beauty, to be sure!

Nope, I doubt I'd give that one a try.
